Eighth Grade Class Wished Hope for the Future
5/4/2011 11:27:00 AM by Christine Streich

On Friday, April 29, Our Lady of Black Rock School hosted its annual Hope Ribbon Mass and Pinning Ceremony for the eighth grade class.

The event, which occurs annually in May, recognizes the "winding down" of the school year and celebrates the years spent by the eighth grade students at Our Lady of Black Rock School. By pinning each student with a Miraculous Medal, the ceremony symbolizes the school community's "sending forth" of the eighth grade class with sentiments of hope for its future.

All OLBR students, staff were invited to join the eighth grade class and their families to celebrate this event, and the Pre-K, Kindergarten, and first grade students led the group in singing the songs for the mass. Eighth grader Sofia Cruz-Nastri read the first reading.   Assumption Pastor and OLBR Canonical Administrator Reverend Richard Jedrzejewski followed with the Gospel reading and a beautiful homily about the need to spread gospel values beyond "locked doors" and out into the world. Virginia Quinn read the Prayers of the Faithful, and Brooke Mis, Nicholas Guadagna, and Amber Euscher brought up the offertory gifts.

The eighth grade students and their parents/guardians were then invited to come up to the altar. Reverend Jedrzejewski blessed the blue and white ribbons bearing the Miraculous Medals with holy water while praying over the students and their families. The ribbons were then pinned onto the students.

The eighth grade class then presented the song "Immaculate Mary," which they played on the bells and chimes.

The mass and pinning ceremony were followed by a special luncheon for the eighth grade students and their families.
