For the past three weeks, four students from the Psychology Department at Canisius College have been working with 6th and 7th graders on enrichment, leadership, and motivation. During the first week, the team played a game with balloons to teach the students the value of teamwork and goal-setting as the basis for success. Last week, they led the students in a discussion about perception and emotions, demonstrating the importance of tolerance for different opinions and beliefs.
This week marked the "halfway point" for the program, and the group completed a joint activity intended to teach the concepts of motivation and team task completion. The students were divided into teams and given simple supplies to make a device that would protect a raw egg from breaking when dropped from the top of the stairs. Everyone came up with some very creative ideas, but only one group was able to keep the egg intact.
Canisius team members Ryan, Alex, Kyle, and Britaney promise they will be bringing some special guests for the final workshop of the year. The students will not want to miss this!
